Black Desk & Chair Set, **[SOLD]**

$0.00
sold out

This desk and chair set is extremely cool. It’s a very contemporary vibe with origins in Mid-Century design.I like the compact dimensions of the desk, and the chair matches it perfectly.

The desk originally was finished with an ugly stain under a glossy, peeling and flaking finish that did nothing to enhance its rough plywood construction. My first step was de-construction, re-making the desk square and solid. I then stripped the finish and replaced the top with a nicely figured veneer plywood. The base was sanded and painted jet-black, while the new top and drawer front was stained with contrasting Candelite gel stain from General Finishes.

While I acquired the desk from a neighbor, the chair is a family piece that belonged to my wife’s parents. It has traveled widely over the last 75 years before arriving at our house in pretty sad shape. The finish was water-damaged; the joints were loose; and the stretcher between the legs had gone missing. However, the chair’s back is beautiful walnut veneer, and I carefully restored it and patched in new veneer where it was missing.I disassembled and reglued the entire chair, fabricated a new stretcher and painted all but the walnut backrest in matching black paint. I choose a durable outdoor fabric for the seat and installed it over fresh batting to make it extra comfy. Both desk and chair were sprayed with multiple coats of satin polyurethane.

We’re overjoyed to have rescued the chair and look forward to it serving a new owner for generations to come. The desk is small enough to fit anywhere but has plenty of space for working on your laptop, and a full-width storage drawer that holds a ton of stuff.I just love the combination of black paint and natural finishes – hope you do too.
