Porch Glider, [**SOLD**]

$0.00

Always wish you had a porch swing but didn’t know if your porch ceiling could support one, or you don’t have the time or skill to install it? Then this porch glider is perfect for you! Buy this and you can have the same traditional, gentle rocking motion with none of the hassle of hanging chains and drilling bolt holes overhead. Plus, you can move it to follow the sun!

In a former life, this glider was a porch swing. When my neighbor offered it to me, it was falling apart, plus rusty chains and dreadful peeling paint called for a complete makeover. By chance, glider hinges, which are pretty expensive, were on sale for half-price! With hinges in hand, I scouted gliders on the Web, drew up plans & built a glider base, then rebuilt the entire seat from the ground up.

The original swing needed a cushion to sit on because it had so few slats, spaced far apart, and their edges were sharp. In rebuilding the seat, I added more seat and back slats, spacing them only ¾” apart and radiusing the edges on all of them to make them softer. I also made new wider armrests. Every structural joint that was originally nailed together was unfastened and then glued and screwed back together for greater strength. Stainless steel bolts hold the glider base and seat frame together, as well as secure the glider hinges in place.

I wasn’t sure if the original paint contained lead or not so I stripped it all off to bare wood. Then I primed and sprayed on multiple coats of Sherwin Williams Rookwood Shutter Green, a traditional porch swing color.

Watch the leaves come off the trees this fall as you rock on your new glider with a friend or family member. The motion is very gentle, like a baby’s cradle. This high quality one-of-a kind restoration will last for years, giving you many peaceful memories!

Dimensions: 36” H x 62” W x 27” Deep; Seat 18” H
