Navy Blue Dresser, [**SOLD**]

$0.00

My latest offering is a sharp-looking, custom color Navy blue, seven drawer dresser with champagne bronze pulls. Those Instagram followers who attended my Spring Porch Sale saw in person the sad looking “before” specimen on display as an example of the type of challenges I undertake!

The solid pine top had innumerable deep scratches and stains, as did the solid pine drawer fronts. Many of the knots had bled through the natural finish as well. Progressive sanding with a series of grits readied a fresh starting point, allowing me to seal the knots with shellac before priming the entire piece with two coats of oil-based primer. Structurally I had to reset all the corner and glue blocks. I made 3 wooden drawer glides to replace broken ones. I removed the mating metal slides from all the drawers to remove rust and gave them a coat of wax. I also replaced the rotted pressboard back with luan plywood. To give a more modern rectilinear look I trimmed off some of the curves from the sinuous base.

The rich deep Navy color is a mix of three Fusion Mineral Paints in a recipe kindly shared by Angie @transcendfurnituregallery, one of the truly inspirational furniture artists I follow and one you should check out. I chose the soft gold-look pulls and knobs from D. Lawless Hardware, the champagne bronze line ramping up the elegant look even further. While Fusion paint already has a built in top coat, I added thee coats of Varathane Polyurethane in a satin finish to the entire case.

This solid elegant looking piece proves rare hardwoods and fancy joinery aren’t necessary to define a piece of furniture worth saving. And at this price, quality and good looks is also quite affordable.

Dimensions: 56” L x 17” W x 32” H
