Butcher Block Kitchen Island [**SOLD**]

$0.00

This gorgeous solid 33mm maple butcher block kitchen island is on-trend, in 2022 color of the year sage green finish and brushed brass T-drawer and door pulls. It’s come a long way from the state I found it: its left door fractured in two, the top covered with black water rings, red stains of unknown origin, and numerous deep cuts and gouges.

I started sanding the top with 180 grit to open the grain before applying a saturated solution of oxalic acid, a strong wood bleach. I repeated this and then flushed it with plenty of fresh water as the stains had faded. I progressively sanded with finer grits. After a final cleaning I applied a coat of Odie’s Oil, a food-safe finish (Thanks Angie at #Transcendfurnituregallery, master artist and my virtual mentor!).

On the case and doors/drawers, after making the necessary repairs and scuff sanding and priming, I sprayed on two coats of Sacred Sage Fusion Mineral Paint. After a quick hand sanding, I sprayed on several coats of Minwax polycrylic, then installed the new hardware and new leveling adjusters on the legs.

In this case function follows form. Hang your apron, potholders or kitchen towels on the towel rack and hangers at either end. The two drawers can hold your silverware, cooking utensils or spice bottles for food prep. Behind the two doors there is a commodious storage space, including a shelf that runs the entire width, that is limited only by your imagination: dishes, pots and pans, baking ware, Cuisinart, slow cookers, Kitchen Aid Mixer – it all fits and/or rows of dry goods, canned food; or add wire baskets, bins, totes. On the opposite side is space to slide in two stools – now it’s not just a prep station but a dining table/homework station/craft space, even a home office. Marvelous!

Dimensions: H 36” x W 42 x D 24”

$470. Cash, Venmo, PayPal accepted.
