Art Deco Dresser [**SOLD**]

$0.00

This is stunning makeover of a four-drawer dresser with all new internal and external hardware. In its previous life, this high-end, well-constructed dresser (built by Stanley Young America) suffered under the hand of an apparently rambunctious teenage boy who managed to break all twelve drawer glides, scratched his name and various designs into the cabinet’s top, and let several of the original drawer pulls go missing.

When ordering replacements for the drawer glides I found that the original parts had been replaced by an “improved commercial style” that included a steel backing plate (see the before/after pictures). Watching the manufacturer’s YouTube installation video and reading their written warnings on potential breakage I concluded that the original design without the metal plates had an inherent design flaw that led to premature failure, with or without teenager abuse!

I envisioned a sophisticated look for this project, so I sanded back the entire scratched top and sprayed on three coats of Melange Jett Black paint, hand sanding between coats for a smooth finish. Even though the paint has a built-in topcoat I sprayed on three coats of Minwax polycrylic for extra durability, and polished it with Briwax Ebony wax. I color-matched with stain all the dings and wear & tear scratches and rubbed-out the wood finish with Fusion beeswax polish. The framed drawer fronts and fluted columns hinted of Art Deco so I carried forward that theme with gold and black Art Deco pulls from D.Lawless Hardware that pick up the black top beautifully. I think it looks pretty elegant, don’t you?

Dimensions: H 33.5” x W 46.75 x D 20”

$400. Cash, Venmo, PayPal accepted.
